Room 9: erased by a number. the novel that gives students back their voice

The problem
How many times has a grade silenced a student’s voice? How many times does school seem to care only about numbers and checkboxes, ignoring who we really are and how we grow? Room 9. The hidden notes: Erased by a number was born from this frustration: turning feelings of powerlessness into action and giving students a space to express themselves.

The book

In this novel for teenagers, we follow Amira, Leo, and Isan, three students navigating a school system that measures everything with numbers. Together with their teacher, Prof. Serra, they decide to apply design thinking to create real, creative solutions.

Their goal? To show that numerical grades cannot capture the full spectrum of each student’s personality. The result is the

Poetic Anti-Register

, a tool where students and teachers can record emotions, reflections, and goals for improvement.

The book alternates between third-person narration, diary entries from the students, practical design thinking tool sheets, and ready-to-use templates, with interactive elements that make the reader an active participant in the story.

Why read it

Room 9 is more than a novel: it’s an experience. Key benefits include:
  • Stimulates creativity and critical thinking.
  • Gives voice to students, valuing their emotions and ideas.
  • Offers interactive activities with ready-to-use templates for school life.
  • Introduces teens to design thinking as a method for solving real problems.
  • Encourages empathy and collaboration between students and teachers.

Who’s Behind Room 9
Room 9 was born from the Junior

Design project, aiming to introduce children and teenagers to design thinking as a tool to improve their soft skills and face school with creativity and autonomy.

For me, this book is a gentle act of rebellion: an invitation to see school differently, to value students’ emotions and ideas, and to turn frustration into planning and action. It’s a story that seeks to build bridges—between generations, students and teachers, and between the desire for expression and creative methods.
