An interactive activity book to take you on a journey of the mind and help you develop critical thinking skills
Soar to the top of the world with Gaia in Nepal, Elena Venieri’s interactive adventure designed for children aged 9 and over. Much more than just a travelogue: an illustrated activity book that combines a gripping story with puzzles and hands-on design thinking activities. The perfect way to explore new cultures, understand sustainability and learn to solve real-world problems – big and small – whilst having fun.
An extraordinary journey to the roof of the world
Backpack on! This time, Gaia sets off for a magical and distant destination: Nepal, amidst majestic mountains, remote villages and age-old traditions. But what was supposed to be a simple journey of discovery soon turns into an important mission. Gaia will find herself having to understand the needs of a local community, facing challenges related to the environment, resources and coexistence.
In this chapter too, you are the true driving force behind the story. The reader does not simply follow the narrative, but guides it: page by page, you will be called upon to decipher clues, make choices crucial to the plot’s development and solve creative puzzles.
An immersive and educational adventure designed to bridge cultural divides, teaching young children to view the world with open, curious and deeply empathetic eyes.
Learning to put oneself in the shoes of those who live in a context completely different from one’s own, whilst valuing diversity.
Challenge yourself with the included emotional journals and workshop worksheets, so you can turn your ideas into action straight away.
Understanding the fragility of mountain ecosystems and the importance of a balanced relationship between humans and nature.
Linking local issues (such as resource management) to creative and sustainable solutions.
The saga
Gaia in Nepal is part of a series of interactive activity books published by Junior Design. Each volume is a standalone chapter that takes the young protagonist on a journey to explore a different corner of our planet (such as the wooded depths of Gaia: The Mystery of the Forest). The overarching theme? To transform young readers from passive observers into active agents of change, one adventure and one idea at a time.
I am a digital designer, a mum and the founder of Junior Design. My aim is to help children develop creativity, empathy and critical thinking through play, stories and exploring the world.
I work daily with schools, families and educators because I believe that the skills needed by tomorrow’s citizens must be nurtured from an early age, by stimulating curiosity and problem-solving. Gaia in Nepal stems from my love of travel and the belief that there is no better way to teach open-mindedness and respect than by giving children an adventure in which their choices really matter.
This book is perfect for parents who want to give their children an interactive reading experience that sparks their imagination and encourages them to put down their digital devices through practical and engaging challenges. It is also an invaluable resource for primary school teachers, educators and cultural mediators seeking an original narrative framework to tackle complex topics in the classroom, such as human geography, the sustainability goals of the 2030 Agenda, cooperation and global citizenship education.
